What is a Mechanical Supervisor? Duties and Responsibilities

The primary job of a mechanical supervisor is to supervise repair and installation work performed by mechanics in various industries. A mechanical supervisor conducts inspections, ensures safety procedures are followed, and maintains an inventory of machine parts. He or she will create job performance reports, document mechanical production, and hire and discipline employees as needed.

Mechanical supervisors are primarily employed in manufacturing or production; examples include automakers, aircraft maintenance, or machine shops. As reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment rate of industrial production managers, including mechanical supervisors, is expected to decline by 4% during the 2014-2024 period. The continuing trend to outsource manufacturing jobs to other countries plays a role in this expected decline.
