Computer Network Administrators Outlook

Computer network administrators are responsible for adding and deleting files on the network server, a central computer. Among other things, the server stores software applications used by network users on a daily basis. (Many software applications are now available through cloud computing services and network administrators ensure that users can access these programs on the Internet.) Administrators update files from the database, emails and word processing applications. You are also responsible for ensuring that print jobs are performed correctly. This task is to tell the server where the printer is located and set up a print queue or line indicating which print jobs have priority.

Another task for some network administrators is to configure user access. Because companies store sensitive information on the server, users generally have access to only a limited number of applications. Network administrators tell the computer who can use which programs and when they can use them. They create a series of passwords to protect the system from internal and external espionage. They also solve problems and questions that employees encounter.

Network administrators are responsible for all network communications, most of which are managed through telephone lines or fiber optic cables. If users experience communication problems, contact the network administrator. A typical communication problem is that a user cannot send or receive files from other computers. Since users rarely have a high level of technical expertise on the network, the network administrator can ask appropriate questions in intuitive language to determine the cause of the problem. If this is not a user error, the network administrator checks the correctness of the computer files, verifies that the modems are working properly and performs noise tests on the lines of communication with special devices. If the problem proves too difficult for the network administrator to solve, contact the manufacturer or the warranty company directly.

Network administrators also collect data to evaluate network or system performance and to achieve better and faster performance. They keep detailed records of the number of communication transactions made, the number and type of network errors and methods of correcting them. These records will help you solve problems that may arise in the future.
